Born in Tissamaharama in Sri Lanka’s deep south, Ruwan grew up among wild elephants, ancient temples, and the quiet rhythm of village life. After moving to the coastal city of Matara, he discovered a passion for meeting travellers and sharing the stories, landscapes, and hidden corners of his home island: Experiences no guidebook can truly capture.
Before becoming a full-time driver and guide, Ruwan spent more than 20 years running small businesses, from restaurants to creative ventures on wheels, building a strong foundation in service, responsibility, and human connection. These years shaped his calm presence, problem-solving mindset, and genuine care for the people he meets along the way.
Today, as founder of Sri Lanka Odyssey, Ruwan leads a hand-picked team of experienced drivers and guides who share his commitment to safety, comfort, and sincere hospitality. Whether Ruwan himself is behind the wheel or one of his trusted team members, you can expect thoughtful service, deep local knowledge, and a journey shaped around you.
